Sesame Workshop will find ways to answer this question with a new grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as part of its "Sesame Street Healthy Habits for Life" initiative.
The company plans to conduct an impact study on how effective its "Sesame Street Healthy Habits for Life" guide is on providing English and Spanish speaking family child care providers with strategies to integrate healthy nutrition and physical activity into daycare setting that serve preschool children, as well as inform their parents and caregivers about the same topics.
Thirteen thousand bilingual "Sesame Street Healthy Habits for Life: Child Care Resource Kits" will be distributed through the National Association for Family Child Care in Alabama, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio and Tennessee, areas with great need and strong networks of family child-care providers.
In other news, Sesame Street, which celebrates 40 years in November, was nominated in the Emmy Awards’ New Approaches—Daytime Entertainment category recognizing the use of new media (associated websites, webcasts, and interactivity). The series is also nominated in 14 other categories.
